VA breaks ground on San Antonio Community Based Outpatient Clinic

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will break ground June 28 on the VA San Antonio Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).

With roughly 250,000 veterans and 80,000 active-duty personnel living in the San Antonio metro area, 1 in 8 residents are connected to the armed forces in this “military city.”

The new facility will serve veterans, active duty service members and their families. Featuring state-of-the-art design and technology, the facility will exemplify reform and progress within the VA health system.

The issue of veteran’s healthcare is paramount for this population, who receive more than 40,000 new cancer diagnoses per year and experience mental health issues at a significantly higher rate than civilians, including being 15 times more likely to develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), among other health issues.
